Applied Kinesiology

Applied Kinesiology (AK) was developed in the 1960s by a group of health care practitioners led by George Goodheart, DC. Dr. Goodheart and his team observed the relationship between:

  • Vitality of individual muscles
  • Nerve supply to muscles
  • Spine (vertebrae & discs), skull, and all other bones and joints
  • Nutritional factors related to individual muscles
  • Associated acupuncture meridians
  • Associated functions of organs and glands
  • Interconnected mental and emotional influences

The basis of these discoveries centered around utilizing manual muscle testing to help identify musculoskeletal imbalances and corresponding imbalances of interrelated systems.

Applied Kinesiology provides a comprehensive, non-invasive method for evaluating and treating a person from a holistic and wellness perspective.

Educational Kinesiology

Paul Dennison, PhD, is the founder for Educational Kinesiology (also known as Brain Gym). By the early 1980s, Dr. Dennison had developed and was running remedial education centers in California to assist children with learning difficulties. Everything changed when he became interested in manual muscle testing.

Dr. Dennison studied Applied Kinesiology and saw it as a great tool to aid in the assessment of learning difficulties. It also provided a means of immediate feedback through muscle testing to better understand where specifically a child’s learning was inhibited or blocked. Dr. Dennison was then also able to identify ways to directly and individually help with a child’s ability to learn.

Dr. Dennison, along with his wife, Gail, developed simple movements and exercises to help one overcome learning impairments. Some of the techniques Dr. Dennison and Gail developed helped integrate the left and right sides of the brain, which greatly enhanced the ability to learn and comprehend.

Brain Gym offers anyone regardless of age an exciting and effective way to improve the ability to learn and, equally important, handle stress. A fundamental part of Brain Gym is understanding that stress is not due to what happens to us or the situations we face, but rather whether or not we have the ability to handle these potential stressors.

Brain Gym improves our ability to face life’s challenges; and to learn, enjoy, and grow.

Clinical Kinesiology

Clinical Kinesiology was developed by Alan Beardall, DC in the mid 1970s. Dr. Beardall studied Applied Kinesiology and through extensive research expanded the number of manual muscle tests that a health care practitioner could utilize in evaluating a person.

Dr. Beardall also looked at the human body as a biocomputer. By utilizing manual muscle testing, he developed a system to evaluate the interrelationships between individual muscle integrity and all the interconnecting systems that Dr. George Goodheart, DC identified with Applied Kinesiology.
